Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines:
Geologist, Group "A"
Assistant Geologist Grade-I

Qualifications: i) Masters degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geochemistry or Geological Technology or Geophysical Technology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.

ii) Candidates who have appeared at the final examinations are eligible to appear at the relevant year Examination, but have not been informed of the result.

Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources:
Jr. Hydro geologists (Scientist B), Group "A"
Assistant Hydro geologists, Group "B"
Qualifications: i) Masters degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.

ii) Mastersdegree in Hydrogeology from a recognised university.
Fee: Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/ PH who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur / State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa / Master Credit / Debit Card.

  • Part I: Written examination
  • Subject: General English, Duration: 3 hrs. & Maximum Marks: 100
  • Subject: Geology Paper I, Duration: 3 hrs. & Maximum Marks: 200
  • Subject: Geology Paper II, Duration: 3 hrs. & Maximum Marks: 200
  • Subject: Geology Paper III, Duration: 3 hrs. & Maximum Marks: 200
  • Subject: Hydrogeology, Duration: 3 hrs. & Maximum Marks: 200
  • Part II: Interview for Personality Test.

UPSC Geology Syllabus

General English: In this section the questions are asked in bachelor degree standard. In this one essay must be written. Remaining questions are only for testing the language abilities of the candidates. The vocabulary of the candidate and the reading techniques will be thoroughly tested.

Geology Paper-1: In this paper the topics like geomorphology, remote sensing, structural geology, geotectonics, and paleontology are very important.

Geology Paper-2: Here the questions will be coming from the topics like mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, sedimentation, geochemistry, and environmental geology.

Geology Paper-3: It contains questions from Indian Mineral Deposits and Mineral Economics, Ore Genesis, Mineral Explorations, Geology of Fuels, and Engineering Geology.

Hydro Geology: Occurrence and Distribution of water, Well hydrolysis and well design, Ground water chemistry, Ground water exploration, ground water management and problems are the topics covered in this section.
